The creative designs of students in EVIT’s Fashion, Interiors and
Textiles program will be showcased this week during the 2014 Fashion
Show at the East Valley Institute of Technology. The show starts at 6
p.m., Thursday, April 17 in the Culinary banquet hall on the Dr. A.
Keith Crandell (Main) Campus, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa.
The theme of this year’s fashion show is based on the elements of
earth, wind, fire and water, with each design based on one of the
elements. More than 30 students from other EVIT programs have
volunteered to model the garments. And, several other EVIT programs –
such as Cosmetology, Radio, Video, and Multimedia – are involved
behind-the-scenes and in staging the show.
The fashion students’ work will be judged before and during the show.
This year’s judges include Corbin Chamberlin, 2008 EVIT alumni and
fashion reporter for Financial Times; Shawnee Doherty of FIDM (Fashion
Institute of Design and Merchandising); fashion photographer Rebecca
DeVaney; Phoenix Art Museum curator Dennita Sewell; Paradise Valley
fashion instructor Missy Martin; EVIT counselor Pauline Acosta; 2011
EVIT alumni Joshua Soberanes; Avery Thompson, 2013 EVIT alumna and FIDM
student; and Macy Schnepf, 2013 EVIT alumna and BYU student.
Many EVIT design students have gone on to such renowned schools as
the Pratt Institute and LIM College in New York, FIDM Fashion Institute
of Design and Merchandising in California, and more.
Fashion, Interiors and Textiles – or FIT, as the students and
teachers call it – is taught by Kristen Johnson and Kimberly Foulger.
Tickets are still available for Thursday’s show. Cost is $20, $10 or $5. To order tickets, call (480) 461-4141.
