Public invited to community events April 12 at EVIT

Mesa’s East Valley Institute of Technology, 1601 W. Main St., will be a busy place Saturday, April 12 with four events open to the public.

Market on the Move
From 7 to 10 a.m., EVIT’s Culinary Arts program will host Market on the Move, a huge produce market in the parking lot, where you can get up to 60 pounds of produce for just $10.

Adelante Community Health and Safety Fair
From 8 to 11 a.m., EVIT partner Adelante Healthcare, 1705 W. Main St., will host a Community Health and Safety Fair. This family event is free and includes a bounce house and slide, balloon animals, food, games and prizes, crafts, and health screenings. There will also be free demos in water, fire, food and car seat safety. Parents can get a free car seat safety check and a free Kid ID kit while supplies last. And, Cardon Children’s Medical Center will be giving out free drowning prevention bags that include a whistle bracelet.

The Young and Old Timers Car Show
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., EVIT and the Arizona Street Rod Association will host The Young and Old Timers Car Show, which is open to all cars, trucks, rods, customs and classics. Registration – from 8 to 10 a.m. – is $20; registration for high school students with an ID is $10. Awards will be given. The show is designed to encourage high school students and street rodders/car enthusiasts to gather to promote the collector car build ‘em and drive ‘em experience.

EVIT Boot Camp
And, from 8 to 11 a.m., East Valley high school students will have the opportunity to try out a free EVIT class during EVIT Boot Camp to see what an actual class is like. Eleven programs – 3D Animation, Automotive, Collision Repair, Information Technology and Engineering Careers (iTEC), Cosmetology, Fire Science, Law Enforcement, Multimedia, Precision Manufacturing, Radio/Audio Production, and Video Productions – and another seven programs in the EVIT School of Health Sciences will offer classes during Boot Camp. Participating health programs include: Emergency Medical Technician, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Massage Therapy, Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technician and Physical Therapy Technician.
