Arizona’s best high school Commercial Baking & Pastry Arts program wants to bake your holiday pumpkin pie, dinner rolls, cranberry orange loaf and other goodies. The annual Thanksgiving Baked Goods sale provides students in the East Valley Institute of Technology’s culinary and baking programs with valuable real world work experience.
Every year, the students take about 750 to 800 orders from the community and then spend Thanksgiving week using 2,000 pounds of flour to bake 1200 pies, 1500 loaf breads, and 150,000 rolls. Profits from the sale help provide scholarships to students in EVIT’s Culinary Arts and Commercial Baking programs – Arizona’s only high school programs nationally accredited by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation.
This year’s bakery order list includes dinner rolls, white or wheat, $1.50 per dozen; 9-inch deep dish apple, apple cranberry, or pumpkin pies, $6 each; 1-pound pumpkin, cranberry orange, banana walnut, spiced apple or dark chocolate loaf breads, $4.50 per loaf; and 8-inch by 8-inch dark chocolate iced brownies or pumpkin pie walnut bars for $5.
