The East Valley Institute of Technology has won the 2015 A+ School of Excellence™ award from the Arizona Educational Foundation. This is the second time in recent weeks that EVIT has been honored. In March, readers of the East Valley Tribune voted EVIT as “Best Public School” and “Best Place to Work,” and recognized EVIT Multimedia instructor Eric Perez as “Best High School Teacher” and Bistro 13 as “Best Specialty Restaurant.”
“We are very pleased to be honored as an A+ School in Arizona, as well as the Best Public School in Mesa,” said Superintendent Sally Downey. “It’s recognition of the outstanding work our students, teachers and staff do every day.”
EVIT is one of about 50 schools in Arizona that earned the A+ designation this year. This is the third time EVIT is has been recognized as an A+ school.
EVIT provides 40 career training programs tuition-free to high school students who live in Mesa, Scottsdale, Apache Junction, Fountain Hills, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Higley, Queen Creek and J.O. Combs. Tuition-based programs for adults are also offered with financial aid available to those who qualify.
EVIT students have a 95 percent high school graduation rate, and two out of three go on to college. EVIT’s two Mesa campuses – the Dr. A. Keith Crandell (Main Campus), 1601 W. Main St., and the East Campus, 6625 S. Power Road – have an 86 percent success rate in placing students in college, jobs or the military within one year of completing their programs.
TIME magazine has recognized EVIT as “learning that works.” Offerings include a dozen health career programs, aviation, culinary arts, robotics engineering, radio, multimedia, computer sciences, fashion & interior design, cosmetology, automotive, welding, precision manufacturing, 3D animation, fire science, law enforcement, early childhood education, and more.
