Gilbert home-schooled student Terah Thielen plans to combine her interest in the medical field and love for children by becoming a pediatric dental hygienist. Through the East Valley Institute of Technology, she is getting the training and experience she needs to meet her goal.

Terah, 17, is a second-year EVIT student in the Dental Careers program at the Dr. A. Keith Crandell (Main) Campus in west Mesa, after completing the Human Anatomy and Physiology for Medical Careers program last school year at the EVIT East Campus in east Mesa. She is participating in a dental externship this spring and will take professional industry certification exams in dental radiography and coronal polishing after she completes the dental program in May.

Terah has maintained a 4.0 grade point average at EVIT and was inducted last year into the National Technical Honor Society. She serves her community by volunteering for Feed My Starving Children, Save the Family, and Voices for the Voiceless, among other organizations. She also participated in a mission trip to Esperanza Children’s Home in Rocky Point, Mexico.

Terah decided to enroll at EVIT because of its hands-on approach to education through lab experiences, internships and externships. She is one of many home-schooled students who attend EVIT for part of their school day.

“I really like EVIT because pretty much everybody here wants to be here,” she said. “It’s something they chose.”

Our business partners and elected leaders are part of Terah’s success! On behalf of Terah and all EVIT students, we thank you for your support of quality career and technical education.

Students at EVIT’s centralized campuses have a 96% graduation rate, 2 out of 3 go to college, and 87% are in college, jobs or the military within one year of their EVIT training.
